Making progress

We have just completed our first section of this semester. Progress reports will be distributed this week. We just took our first common assessment last week on the regular "ar" verbs; their meanings and conjugations.
We will begin learning about classroom items and introducing the regular "er" verbs this week.

Likes and Dislikes notes

Likes & Dislikes
~ to discuss what you and others like and don’t like.

To find out what a friend likes, or likes to do, we ask this question:
¿Qué te gusta? – What do you like?

Response:
Me gusta …. Me gusta el fútbol.

Los deportes – sports
1. el baloncesto (basketball) or el basquetbol
2. el béisbol (baseball)
3. el fútbol (soccer)
4. el fútbol norteamericano (football)
5. la natación (swimming) el polo acuático ~ h2o polo

¿Te gusta el fútbol? “te” refers to “you”
~ When you see the “te gusta” at the beginning of the question, you begin your answer with “sí” (yes) or “no” (no).

Sí, me gusta el fútbol. (affirmative)

No, no me gusta el fútbol. (negative)
*If the answer is in the negative (no), you begin with “no” and then say no me gusta.

"ar" verb conjugations

Conjugating “ar” verbs:
What is conjugation? = You change the verb form to match the person that is doing the action.

example:
1. verb- estudiar (to study)
• this is the infinitive or unchanged verb.

2. I need to change this verb to match the person.
example= Yo estudio. (the ending “ar” was dropped and “o” was added)

A. Each person has a different ending when you conjugate:
* drop the ending “ar” and add these endings:
Yo (I) – o - estudio
Tú (you) – as - estudias
él (he) – a - él estudia
ella (she)– a - ella estudia
usted (you)– a - usted estudia

plural:
Nosotros (masc.) - estudiamos
Nosotras (fem.)=(we/us) – amos

ellos (m) - ellos estudian
ellas (f)(they/them) - an -ellas estudian
ustedes (you all) - ustedes estudian

Upcoming assignments

1. On Friday, September 3rd, we will have a speaking quiz on the Spanish alphabet. The students are responsible to know how to say every letter of the alphabet. They will be asked ten random letters. Each letter said correctly is worth 2 points, for a total of 20 points.

2. We will be beginning the conjugation of regular "ar" verbs this week. Along with this we will learn the pronouns.

We will be asking and answering questions in class to express some information about ourselves.

Finding out about you:
¿Cómo te llamas?
~ Me llamo Señor Madsen.

¿De dónde eres?
~ Yo soy de Fresno.

¿Cuántos años tienes?
~ Yo tengo cuarenta y un años.

¿Cómo estás?
~ Yo estoy muy bien gracias. ¿Y tú?

¿Dónde vives?
~ Yo vivo en Clovis.

¿Qué es tu numero favorito?
~ Mi numero favorito es tres.

¿Qué es tu color favorito?
~ Mi color favorito es azul.
